Meet the team
For many years, Peter and Christy Roukema owned a second home in Pagosa Springs and spent significant time here. As many do, they fell in love with the people, the community, and the beauty. So when an opportunity arose for them to own a dental practice in their ‘home away from home,’ they jumped on it.
Living full-time in Pagosa Springs and owning Pagosa Peak Family Dental is a dream come true for Peter, Christy, and their four children (Hannah, Max, Sam and Ben). They’ve finally found their forever home.
Having grown up in Pueblo, Colorado has always held a special place in Dr. Roukema’s heart. Christy became interested in the dental field early in her teen years as her neighbor, also named Christi, worked as a dental assistant. She wanted to be just like her and decided to pursue dental hygiene. Christy graduated from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry with a bachelor’s degree in Science-Dental Hygiene. She went on to complete post-graduate training in clinical dental hygiene, dental office management, and team development.
While Peter attended dental school and later served as a dentist in Albuquerque for over a decade, Christy served as a dental hygienist in a general dentist office and a periodontal practice, focusing on periodontal disease and periodontal surgery.
As a wife and mom of four busy kids, she cherishes family time. She also loves working with her husband! Born and raised in Colorado, she enjoys everything it has to offer from skiing and mountain biking to paddle boarding and hiking. She loves being a part of community events and community outreach opportunities with the team and her family.
